First Performance in the Church

On 12th August 2015 as part of the 20th edition of the Baroque Festival in Auvergne (Festival baroque d'Auvergne) the early music ensemble Cantica Sacra comprising Paulina Tkaczyk (traverso flute, harpsichord) and Bogumiła Gizbert-Studnicka (harpsichord) gave a wonderful concert in the church in Mainsat.

Both musicians gave the first performance of the works by Christlieb Siegmund Binder, who was the most prolific composer at the 18th century Dresden court in Saxony.

For the first time the numerous audience could enjoy the individual harpsichord and flute sonatas of the composer, who has been forgotten for two centuries. Bringing these works to light was possible thanks to Paulina Tkaczyk, who had tracked down the artist's story and scores. His works combine the baroque and classical styles through Mozart's and Beethoven's works.

During the concert the musicians performed Mozart's Sonata in D Major for four hands – the work significant for this artistic filiations. Works written for four hands, very rarely performed in front of an audience, were played in a manner which revealed an extraordinary accord between the musicians.

The audience was surprised by the excellence of this interpretation and demanded two encores – Beethoven's works followed by Schubert's works.

We would like to have more of such extraordinary evenings in this church.
